On the first day of the weekend's Super Sale, huge number of consumers showed up and exhausted their dirhams which in return made the Dubai retailers in need of a sales boost. Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) placed the call-to-shop when it declared the three-day event encircling 250 brands, 1,000 outlets, and discounts ranging between 30 percent to 90 per cent respectively. Yesterday, the Mall of the Emirates (MOE) was quite busy at 4pm due to huge traffic jam on the streets outside as cars waited in the queue long to enter the mall. To quote the manager of a global fashion chain's outlet at the mall "our sales are 58 per cent up compared with the same day last year, and we are not having a sale. It's been mostly women's and children's clothing that has seen the bump. Maybe the men will come in over the weekend. The footfall has been really impressive." The new event is a portion of the Retail Calendar, announced in 2016, to arrange promotions and sales emirate-wide.
Interested consumers were waiting at MOE before the store gets opened. In the meantime, parking in front of The Dubai Mall became next to impossible by late afternoon. The retailers are expected to get a major push from the, as this year witnessed a flat growth in the midst of weak consumer sentiment on drop in the oil prices and the following softer economic environment. "The event looks to be a great success so far," said Saeed Al Falasi, the executive director of retail and strategic alliances at Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, part of Dubai Tourism and the organizer of the sale.
